TranslationThe transfer of the land and Kotoshironushi

Includes interpretation

Before Tsumiha Yae Kotoshironushi no Mikoto, whose name is spoken with reverence, I humbly declare: when the kami asked whether Toyoashihara no Mizuho no Kuni should be placed under the Sovereign Grandchild, the great kami was at Cape Miho in Izumo, delighting in hunting birds and taking fish. He answered that the land should be offered to the Sovereign Grandchild, raised a many-layered fence of green brush upon the sea, stepped upon the prow of his boat, and withdrew.

Editorial note

This prayer praises Kotoshironushi as Ebisu. Other major Ebisu traditions, including that of Nishinomiya Shrine, venerate Hiruko as Ebisu; this page does not claim that one identification is universal.
